Zorro Ransomware Virus – How Did I Get It?

The most likely reason to get infected with Zorro is email spam. The crooks behind the virus rely on sending out malicious emails. These letters are masked to look like they were sent from a legit company like Amazon, PayPal, BestBuy or a similar entity.

The email’s content is often urging you to download attached files, usually documents in the form of PDF, Word, or types of files. Once you do that and then open those files, the virus will start its process and start spreading in your system.

Zorro Ransomware Virus – What Does It Do?

The goal of Zorro is to take over your computer and lock its important files. The virus will target audio files, documents, project files, images, music, game saves, just about everything that has the potential to be valuable to the user. The files get locked by an encryption process.

Encryption is a scrambling of the data inside your files. The information gets so complex that your computer has no way to read and process it. Thus the files become unusable until decryption. The ransomware is probably using the NIST-developed AES decryption algorithm.

The virus will often shove its drop within the Windows system folders: User Profile, Local, Roaming, System32, and others. Once these files have completed the infection process, your PC will be slower, as many ransomware viruses also have resource-swallowing spyware attached.
