SerbRansom 2017 Ransomware Description

The SerbRansom 2017 Ransomware is a newly discovered malware threat that is created by a hacker known under the alias of R4z0rx0r Serbian Hacker.

The initial security analysis shows that it is an independent creation and is not an offspring from some of the famous families of viruses. From the malware’s description we assume that it is created by a person from Serbia or a Serbian-speaking hacker.

Its behavior patterns are typical – the virus engages its encryption engine which uses the AES cipher to encrypt target user files and then extorts the victim for a ransomware payment. All affected data receive the .velikasrbija extension which translates to “Great Serbia”. The requested ransom sum is 500 US Dollars in Bitcoins.

After the virus has done encrypting the files a ransomware note is crafted which contains the following message:

YOUR FILES HAS BEEN ENCRYPTED WITH SERBRANSOM 2017
How to recover?
Your personal info:
Username: %USERNAME%
PC-name: %PCNAME%

To decrypt all your data you need to pay 500$ with BitCoin here > WALLET_ID_BTC
Send an email to us with payment (screenshot) EMAIL
Every random file will be removed permanently after 05:00 minutes!

The virus deletes a random file every 5 minutes. To further extort the victims for a payment the payment gateway site also lists some of the harvested system information – the username, computer name and the local IP address of the affected user.
