Infection Flow of NSMF File Virus
The NSMF file virus is a new malware threat that uses a strong encryption engine to process target system and user data. It is a ransomware computer virus that originates from the popular Hidden Tear family of threats. The hacker or hacker group behind it have taken the original code and modified it to create the current MSF file virus. This means that it follows the usual behavior traits associated with the core virus. The captured samples associated with the NSMF file virus showcase that only a basic encryption engine is included.
Upon infection with the ransomware the file encryption process is started. Like other similar ransomware the NSMF file virus uses a built-in list of target file type extensions. The hackers behind the NSMF file virus are probably going to use to popular strategy of encrypting as many of the most commonly used data as possible including: videos, photos, music, documents, archives, backups, configuration files, databases and etc. The ransomware extension .nsmsf is used to mark all affected data.
NSMF file virus generates a criminal note in a readme.txt file that reads the following message:
Files has been encrypted with NSMF (Nigga Stone My Files)
Send me 5 bitcoins or pizza
And I also hate night clubs, desserts, being drunk.

The displayed message is typical for basic viruses. It only warns the victims that their data has been compromised and specifies the ransomware sum and the address. The hackers behind the NSMF file virus request 5 Bitcoins which is the equivalent of about 13000 US Dollars, a very large sum even for ransomware. We expect to see an updated version of the NSMF file virus that may include a better ransomware note, along with a dedicated payment gateway with graphic instructions and support contacts. Hidden Tear variants are modular in nature and additional functionality can be included, such as Trojan modules, persistence installations and stealth protection mechanisms.
The samples associated with the NSMF file virus have been found to affect files located on the users desktop folder. This is the reason why the ransomware is categorized as a low-risk threat.
