Jack Pot Ransomware Description

The Jack Pot ransomware is one of the latest threats that have been reported by the security researcher Karsten Hahn. There is still not enough information about its behavior and the little known information that we have is gathered from the ransom message contents.

There is no complete list of the target file name extensions available. Upon infection encryption is started and the user data is compromised by the virus. The ransomware appends the “jack.pot” extension and displays a ransom note that blackmails the users into paying the requested sum (3 Bitcoins) to recover their files. Here is the ransom message:

***jack.pot***

All your important files are encrypted.

To decrypt your files, pay 3.0 BTC ~= 830 USD to the Bitcoin address:

Several anti-virus and anti-spyware vendors have already their definitions to include the Jack Pot ransomware.
