How Does .Coded Virus Infiltrate the System?
The .Coded virus can be acquired by falling victim to several different distribution strategies. One of the most popular ways of infecting users worldwide is by employing spam email messages. They utilize social engineering tricks that attempt to make the targets infect themselves with the dangerous .Coded virus.
Email spam is a widely used tactic that is primarily used for spreading ransomware strains like this one. The hackers send out messages that pose as being sent by legitimate companies or government agencies. The most widely used instances send out malicious links or file attachments that carry the .Coded virus payload. Infected documents or software installers can also be used to deliver malware. The documents can be of various types (spreadsheets, databases or rich text documents) and usually include scripts that when initiated download and execute the .Coded virus.
Infected software installers are usually modified instances of legitimate applications and are spread on hacker-controlled websites or P2P networks like .
Web Scripts or ad networks can be used to deliver the .Coded virus. Other ways include the dangerous browser hijackers that change important settings of the browser and may also disrupt important preferences made by the user to the Windows desktop.
Infection Flow of .Coded Virus Virus
The .Coded virus has been identified to be a strain of the Globe Imposter malware family. This makes it relatively easy to analyze as most of the viruses of this type follow the same infection patterns.
As soon as the virus is activated on the host computer it starts to modify essential settings, including the Windows registry. This can lead to performance issues, system stability problems and other related dangers. Certain strains can also enforce a persistent state of execution which means that infections can only be removed using a quality anti-spyware tool.
The .Coded ransomware engine starts as soon as the preliminary conditions are met. Like other similar threats it uses a built-in file list of target file type extensions. The hackers can modify the list according to the targets. Most of the released samples target the most commonly used data: music, photos, videos, documents, databases and etc. As a result all affected data is renamed using the .coded extension.
In addition the .Coded virus automatically deletes all found Shadow Volume Copies thereby preventing data recovery. The files can only be restored by using a professional-grade solution.
Once the process is complete a ransomware note is crafted in a how_to_back_files.html file containing the following message:
YOUR PERSONAL ID
ENGLISH
YOUR FILES ARE ENCRYPTED!
ALL YOUR IMPORTANT DATA HAS BEEN ENCRYPTED.
To recover data you need decryptor.
To get the decryptor you should:Send 1 crypted test image or text file or document to [email protected]
(Or alternate mail [email protected])
In the letter include your personal ID (look at the beginning of this document).
We will give you the decrypted file and assign the price for decryption all filesAfter we send you instruction how to pay for decrypt and after payment you will receive a decryptor and
instructions. We can decrypt one file in quality the evidence that we have the decoder.
Attention!Only [email protected] can decrypt your files
Do not trust anyone besides [email protected]
Antivirus programs can delete this document and you can not contact us later.
Attempts to self-decrypting files will result in the loss of your data
Decoders other users are not compatible with your data, because each user‘s unique encryption key
The hackers have provided two contact e-mails hosted on free services ‒ [email protected] and [email protected]. The ransomware note does not specify a fixed sum which means that they are going to negotiate the price of “decryption” with the victims.
This is the reason why we discourage contacting the hackers in any way and to use a professional anti-spyware tool that is able to easily remove the infection from the contaminated machines. After this is done the victims can restore their files using the listed data recovery tool.
