VHDLocker Ransomware Description
The VHDLocker Ransomware is newly discovered malware which is also known under the alias of PleaseRead Ransomware. This is a rather strange virus as it features an unusual encryption engine which also affects virtual hard disk images (VHD).
This means that it is most likely targeted at corporate environments and businesses where such instances are usually used in a production environment. Upon infection it follows the standard virus behaviour by encrypting target user files and then extorting the victims for a ransomware fee to restore their files.
At the moment we do not have access to the full list of target user extensions, however we assume that the virus targets the most commonly used documents, photos, music, configuration files and etc.
Once this is done the virus proceeds to create a ransomware note in a “PLEASE READ.txt” file. Its contents read the following message:

It’s not my fault if you are trying to format disk and lose all, encrypted files are not recoverable without bitlocker passoword. Here are only one way to get all back and regain access to your local hard disk drive and this way is to send 0.5 Bitcoin to this address: 1AKjQC***

STEP III: Enter Windows Task Manager and Stop Malicious Processes

3) When you find suspicious process right click on it and select “Open File Location”
4) Go back to Task Manager and end the malicious process. Right click on it again and choose “End Process”
5) Next you should go folder where the malicious file is located and delete it
