The Siri voice assistant has been demonstrated to reveal sensitive information about the device owners of locked iPhones.
Siri Discloses Too Much Details
The Siri voice assistant that is bundled on all modern versions of the iOS operating system has been shown to exhibit dangerous behavior. The default configuration allows Siri to be accessed from the lock screen and this has not changed, even though Apple has issued numerous updates.
Some commands like “Give me directions home” are allowed even on protected lockscreens and are launched. This may give malicious users a way to gain a lot of information about their target victim just by asking a few simple questions. Of course this means having physical access to the device.
Apple has bundled some security features that block certain tasks such as running applications when protection is applied.
Example commands that can be launched include calling contacts, searching the web and sending messages.
However it is very easy to disable the feature.
Navigate to the Settings screen, scroll to Siri, select Siri, and disable the access on the lock screen.
