Russian Globe Ransomware Description
The New Russian Globe ransomware is the newest strain of the Globe ransomware malware family. According to the preliminary security analysis that focused on the live attacks carrying the samples, the virus targets Russian-speaking users.
It follows the typical behavior that is inherited from Globe – it encrypts targer user file extensions and demands a ransom fee from the victims. In this case this is 0.5 Bitcoins which is about 400 US Dollars.
Unfortunately we do not have the full list of target file name extensions or the contents of the ransomware note. However the good news are that most anti-spyware and anti-virus vendors have already added the ransomware strain to their updated definition lists.
Russian Globe Ransomware Distribution
The Russian Globe Ransomware was discovered in live attacks, being distributed in infected binary files. Such files are usually spread in email campaigns that host them either attached to the contents of the phishing messages or are linked with social engineering tricks. Other ways to get infected include downloading infected software bundles from untrusted or hijacked download sites or P2P networks, as well as browser hijackers and Trojans.
