N-SpLiTTer Ransomware Description
The malware authority Jakub Kroustek has recently posted his findings on a new malware threat known as the N-SpLiTTer ransomware. This virus is a new HiddenTear offspring that follows the typical malicious patterns of other strains associated with this malware family.
The virus encrypts target user data, primarily the most widely used file types which include most Office documents, audio, video, photos, databases, configuration files and etc. The unusual thing about this iteration is that it uses the .кибер extension which features Cyrillic characters and is distinct from the usual .locked extension which is used by most other Hiddentear variants.
When encryption is complete the virus engine generates a ransom note which reads the following message:
Your files are encrypted By software “N-SpLiTTer’ ransomvvara and Your photos and all your data bases was
Encrypred
For Decrypting Your Data Send 0.5 Biwin To Account Biwin : 18ujMC98bu4cYcSszzZsSOiGc377p1xEDWhat is encryption?
Encryption is a reversible modification of information for security
reasons but providing full access to it for authorized users.
To become an authorized user and keep the modification absoluwa
reversible (in other words to have a possibility to decrypt your files)
you should have an individual private key.
The virus’s unique signature is being added to the updated definition lists of the major anti-spyware and anti-virus vendors.
N-SpLiTTer Ransomware Distribution
N-SpLiTTer Ransomware has already been used to attack various individuals and companies. The security reports indicate that the virus was able to penetrate several victims and this makes it a dangerous virus.
Like other Hiddentear variants the virus can be spread via different methods – primarily computer criminals use spam email campaigns and infected software binaries.
The virus is distributed as a single binary file – Ru.exe.
