EdgeLocker ransomware is a malware threat that is possibly an independent creation and not a part of a virus family, well according to the initial security analysis. The research experts note that it uses an RSA encryption module which affects the most popular file types.
The compromised files receive the .edgel file extension. The ransomware targets the most widely used user file types including all popular multimedia photos, audio and video files, documents, databases and etc.
When the encryption module is finished with the file operatons a ransomware not is displayed on the screen which shows the following message to the computer victims:

EdgeLocker Ransomware Distribution
EdgeLocker Ransomware was first identified in the last days of December 2016. The virus is carried mainly by email spam messages that are distributed by various botnets and hacked web accounts and servers. – Select “Folder and search options”
– Select the “View” tab
– Go under “Hidden files and folders” and mark “Show hidden files and folders” option

– Mark “Hidden items” option
4) Click “Apply” and then “OK” button
STEP III: Enter Windows Task Manager and Stop Malicious Processes

1) Hit the following key combination: CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
2) Get over to “Processes”
3) When you find suspicious process right click on it and select “Open File Location”
4) Go back to Task Manager and end the malicious process. Right click on it again and choose “End Process”
5) Next you should go folder where the malicious file is located and delete it
