DummyEncrypter Ransomware Description

DummyEncrypter is a ransomware threat that poses as the legitimate CCleaner utility application. Upon infection it starts to encrypt target user files with the AES-256 cipher. A thorough security investigation of the malware code is still ongoing and at this time we do not know if this is standalone threat or a variant of a popular ransomware family.

Upon infection it blocks the screen displaying the ransom message while at the same time encrypting the user files. The ransoomware note reads the following:

Warning: Your data has been encrypted!
Your personal data has been encrypted by a safe technology called AES-256 with US federal government trusted.
When you see this message, we has ENCRYPTED your data by a KEY generated randomly by your machine, and we uploaded this key to our server.
The only way to decrypt your file is use the KEY corresponding the YOUR FILE.
Once encrypt complete we destroyed keys on this machine and only keeps a feature of this machine.
The other parts of your computer is just safe now. Do not worry. We do not harm your computer.
But some applications may lost data or texture and unable to start. Once you unencrypt you can use it normally again.

To decrypt your data, follow these steps:

STEP II: Show Hidden Files

    1) Open My Computer/This PC
    2) Windows 7

      – Click on “Organize” button
      – Select “Folder and search options
      – Select the “View” tab
      – Go under “Hidden files and folders” and mark “Show hidden files and folders” option

    3) Windows 8/ 10

      – Open “View” tab
      – Mark “Hidden items” option

STEP III: Enter Windows Task Manager and Stop Malicious Processes

    1) Hit the following key combination: CTRL+SHIFT+ESC
    2) Get over to “Processes
    3) When you find suspicious process right click on it and select “Open File Location
    4) Go back to Task Manager and end the malicious process. Right click on it again and choose “End Process
    5) Next you should go folder where the malicious file is located and delete it
