The new hacking group Shad0wS3C, formed just two months ago, has leaked database data from Paraguay’s Secretary of National Emergency.
Shad0wS3C Are Probably a Formidable Enemy
Shad0wS3C is one of the newest hacking groups that have made a noticeable impact on the Internet. The criminals have managed to gain access and publicly post a database extract (dump) of data from Paraguay’s Secretary of National. Security researchers were made aware of the data as it was publicly available on the Web. When the leak was discovered, the Government’s web site was functioning properly which indicates that the dump may have been harvested by exploits in the database connection.
The data reveals details about the material stock, billing information, activity logs and also employee records. Personal information reveals sensitive data such as names, phone numbers, addresses, salary and more. The database also has account information for 412 web site profiles. Fortunately, the passwords are hashed are not stored in plain text format.
Shad0wS3C have posted a short description of their motives to target Paraguay. According to them, the country has violated many human rights. The hacker collective specifically mentions some of the main causes:
Impunity and justice system.
- Torture and other ill-treatment.
- Violation of Women’s and girls’ rights.
- Violation against Human rights defenders.
The SNE leak me the group’s second attack. Their first breach was made against the EJBCA database of Everyware, a Certificate Authority. The group seems to act against targets with hacktivist motives, which indicates that they may follow the behavior of other collectives – to post “warnings” to companies and individuals who, according to them, are a threat to their believes. Shad0wS3C have demonstrated that they have the potential and knowledge to break into high-security systems, so it would be wise to monitor their activities. So far their next target is not known.
