The Ocelot Locker ransomware (otherwise also known simply as Ocelot Ransomware) is a scareware type of malware that has been reported by security researchers. This virus does not actually cause any harm to the user’s files however it uses the same ransomware notes that are part of some of the most dangerous viruses.

Like some of the ransomware that it impersonates it employs a screenlocker that blocks any user activity with the victim’s computer until the release key is entered. The displayed message reads the following:

YOUR FILES HAVE BEEN ENCRYPTED
All your personal documents, videos, mp3 files, images, or any other files have been encrypted with a military grade encryption key. The key has been stored on our server. For you to get this key you will have to pay 0.03 BTC (25 USD) and the key will be given to you

After the key is entered the computer displays another message which reveals that the virus is counterfeit:

This could have been real
This could have been a real attack! Don’t let Ransomware fool you into paying!
Prevention is better than desinfection!
